QLTS Exam
 
           QLTS exam is administered by the Kaplan. You will be taking examination in 2 parts. You will  be attending exam over a day in the said parts. The exam is designed to assess your fundamental knowledge of English Law on the syllabus mentioned below in the first part which is called MCT (Multiple Choice Test). In MCT you will be given 180 scenario multiple choice questions see SAMPLE MCT PAGE HERE. In second part you will be examined clinically where you will attempt to advice on a legal scenario and also present your self this part is called OSCE and TLST, see a SAMPLE OSCE and TLST PAGE HERE.
 
                 The QLTS exam will test your fundamental knowledge of English law and practice skills to justify whether you will be able to practice as English Solcitor. The exam is formatted for test of thearatical knowedge of English Law  through MCQs and  practical skills through presentation both wiriting and oral.

MCT Syllabus (QLTS Part 1)
 
 
 
A1 Knowledge of the jurisdiction, authority and procedures of the legal institutions and professions that initiate, develop, interpret and apply the law of England and Wales and the European Union
 
A2 Knowledge of applicable constitutional law and judicial review processes
 
A3 Knowledge of the rules of professional conduct, including the SRA Accounts Rules
 
A4 Knowledge of the regulatory and fiscal frameworks within which business, legal and financial services transactions are conducted
 
A5 Understanding of contract law
 
A6 Understanding of torts
 
A7 Understanding of criminal law
 
A8 Understanding of property law
 
A9 Understanding of Equitable rights and obligations
 
A10 Understanding of Human Rights
 
A11 Understanding of the laws applicable to business structures and the concept of legal personality
 
 
The Assessment
 
MCT (Multiple Choice Test)
 
              In this test you will be given 180 scenario multiple choice question which will be basd on 11 modules such as Contract Law, Criminal Law, Law of Torts, Property Law etc., for full list see below. SRA will only asses your fundamental knowledge within these area. The exam will be conducted in 1 day. You will attempt 90 Questions in Morning and 90 Questions in Evening with a break in between.

OSCE & TLST (Objective Structred Clinical Exam)
 
          From January 2014 TLST will be merged in OSCE exam. OSCE is divided into 2 parts which will be examined in more than 1 day. In Part 1 of the OSCE you will be examined for client interview (see sample page of BCPS Client Interview practice page) and advocacy (our OSCE advocacy unit is comprised of live training in virtual rooms, see a virtual room here you will work with your tutor individually). In Part 2 you will be examined for legal researach, legal drafting and writings skills, see a sample page here for the said training, you will be provided free membership of Nexis Lexis and West Law. The OSCE syllabus is comprised of three area of practice ; Business Law, Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation and Property Law (Conveyancing, Wills, Probate), see full syllabus below.
 
               OSCE can be best trained online as it invloves the computer skills and also online legal research. BCPS have developed full mechanism for this training. You will be provided full tutor support in real time online, with feed back on writings, white board sharing, virtual rooms advocacy training, how to use Nexlinx and West Law etc, see a sample page here.
 
The Exam Rules ;
 
1. It is an unseen examination, no material is allowed in Examination Center. Online leagal research facility will provided and you would be able to access only Nexlinx and West Law Websites.
 
2. You would need to pass MCT in order to proceed to OSCE.
 
3. You can attempt exams 3 times within 5 years of Eligibility Certificate duration. If you want to attempt more tha 3 times you would need to wait for the expiry of your EC.
 
4. There is no requirement of training contract or experience after exam.
